With the board exams for Class 5,8 coming into effect, students will now be grilled almost every other day with class tests and special classes. The Education department is suggesting revision texts everyday evening and coaching classes. The students will now be swamped with studies from 8.30 am all the way to 5.30 pm, students as young as 9-10 years old. 

Coimbatore Chief Education Officer P Ayyannan has instructed all the headmasters of government-run schools to conduct special classes and revision tests for class V and VIII students on all working days in view of the board examination.

In a circular, CEO has asked headmasters of government, aided, corporation, municipality and Adi Dravida welfare schools to prepare a time table for special classes and revision tests for class V and class VIII students and ensure that the classes and tests were conducted as per the schedule. For students of class V and VIII special classes should be conducted on all working days between 8.30 am to 9.15 am. Similarly, revision tests for 25 marks should be conducted daily between 4.30 pm to 5.20 pm, he said in the circular.

The test paper should be evaluated within two days and handed over to the students. The concerned teachers should also maintain a record of marks each student have got in these tests and get a signature from headmasters and parents of the students, he added. He further said, "In case of a particular teacher availing leave, the headmaster should make alternative arrangements for the conduct of special classes and revision test. A separate attendance register for both teachers and students should be maintained for these special classes and revision test."

In the case of nonconduct of special classes or revision test on working days, strict action will be taken against the concerned teacher and headmaster, CEO warned.
