Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC) M Purendra underscored the need of sensitising the women and girl children for reducing the road accidents in the district. He participated as chief guest for Women Safety in Public Transportation in Vijayawada organised by the department as part of the month-long road safety awareness campaign on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Purendra said that the women and girl children will have a safe journey in various transport modes like trains, buses, taxis and maxi cabs only if they follow the guidelines issued by the government. To overcome the problems being faced by the women, they should make use of the suggestions given by the government. He sought the women passengers not to disclose their personal details to the vehicle drivers in which they are travelling to avoid inconvenience with them, he said.

In case, they suspect any danger while travelling in the auto rickshaws and maxi cabs they can dial 100 and DISHA mobile application to prevent the occurrence of any toward incidents and every woman and girl child should be aware of it and intimate their family members about their journey. He called on the women and girl child to install Abhayam mobile application mooted by the Transport Department for ensuring a safe journey for them.

Transport department officials K Ram Prasad, A Vijaya Saradhi, Transport Employees Association Zonal President M Raja Babu and other officials were also present.
