A month after Physics PhD scholar, Rashmi Rajan Suna died due to dengue, the University of Hyderabad has decided to give his family Rs 5 lakh as compensation.

The scholar had been suffering from Dengue for long but his treatment was delayed due to wrong diagnosis by the hospital he had been admitted to. The hospital was recommended by a doctor from their campus clinic.

The university stated that apart from this sum, they have also reimbursed an amount of Rs 1.8 lakh towards the treatment of the student, the travel of his parents and transport of his body to his native village in Orissa.

The students and faculty also collected a sum of Rs 1 lakh for the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, the case of medical negligence filed against Himagiri Hospital in Gachibowli is still under investigation, noted university authorities.
