The Thanjavur District collector on Tuesday, in an unexpected but novel move, found and rescued five minors who were working in brick kilns and made arrangements for them to pursue the education they had to sacrifice. During his inspection of the area, A Annadurai found five school dropouts working in brick kilns on the banks of Kollidam.

On Tuesday he found a 16-year-old girl who had passed her SSLC but was working in a brick kiln. Annadurai instructed SSA officials to make arrangements to enrol her in class 11. Later the collector found two brothers aged 14 years and 12 years-old who were working along with their parents at a brick kiln owned by a Karuppaiah. The collector made arrangements for their education also. 

Annadurai also found a student of class nine and a boy of class six who dropped out of school in Pattukkudi. The officials were instructed to make arrangements for their further studies.The collector warned the brick kiln owners of legal action if the children were found working here again.
