The Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers Federation (TNESTF) on Thursday petitioned Coimbatore Chief Educational Officer (CEO) R Murugan, urging the School Education department not to transfer Anganwadi centres' primary and middle school teachers from one block to another.

Speaking to Express, association district secretary C Arasu said, "Around 200 surplus primary school teachers were transferred to 123 Anganwadi centres across the district to take LKG, UKG classes. As per the School Education department's instruction, the district officials should transfer the surplus teachers within the same block. However, the officials have transferred teachers from one block to another."

"Especially, a few teachers who were working in the Coimbatore city block were transferred to Anganwadi centres functioning at Karamadai, Pollachi, etc. It is beyond 60 to 80 kilometres. A few places, particularly the rural areas, do not have adequate bus facilities. Hence, the CEOs should withdraw the transfer orders immediately."

Further, he demanded to R Murugan that the department officials should not send the teachers to the block education office to do the administration work. He also demanded departmental action against teachers and officers against whom corruption charges were raised, and distribution of genuineness certificate to the eligibility teachers without any delay, among others.
