Students in Madurai to bear the brunt as teachers to boycott SSLC paper evaluation

The decision has created a fear among parents and students as there is a chance that the announcement of results might get delayed due to the protests

The Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers' Association has decided to boycott paper correction and has declared state-wide protests, until the government comes forward to hear and take action on its long-pending demands including payment of arrears.

B Shyam Sundar, a class 10 student, said, "We will be able to think about our admission and choice of stream only based on our marks. Delay in publishing the results will affect our plans. Even if the teachers wish to protest, I just hope that the issues get resolved soon so that the valuation gets completed on the scheduled date."

S Abraham, father of a class 10 student, said that the news of boycott was stressful for both parents and students. "Both students and parents want to know the results soon and get over with it. The impending delay in paper correction is stressful to us as we might have to bear with the suspense of results for few more days," said Abraham.

The students are also worried that the prevailing issue and its effect on the teachers' mood might reflect on their marks, as the valuation may become too strict.

While the officials of the district school education department, when contacted, were unavailable for comment on the issue, Collector K Veera Raghava Rao said that he would discuss the problem with the officials and take a call.
