Almost a month after the state government published the fee regulation for private schools in the state, the private school managements have raised objection over the same. The Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka convened a meeting with its members on Tuesday.

The state government had notified the Karnataka Education Institutions (Classification, Regulation and Prescription of curricula) Amendment Rules, 2018 in the months of May and it was welcomed by parents and private school managements initially, but now the school managements raised objections.

As per the fee regulation issued by the state department of primary and secondary education, apart from recurring costs, the additional fee that can be sought by a school differs with each location which ranges from 70% in gram panchayat and town panchayat limits, to about 100% in BBMP areas. The department had said that such a huge difference in slabs in a school in the town panchayat limits and in the BBMP limits was unacceptable. "The difference of cost may be only in land and all other factors remain the same," the association said this in its communication to media after the meeting.

The private school managements even pointed out that the special development fee has been raised to Rs 2,500. D Shashi Kumar, general secretary of the Association, said, "All the expenditure of the school, which is the maintenance cost, had increased due to demonetisation and GST and the same should have been enhanced at least by Rs 10,000."

Meanwhile, the association has demanded the department officials to convene a meeting with private school managements and to hear their concerns.
