Correspondence of private schools in a meeting at Tiruchy on Thursday asked for quicker processing of DTCP approvals throughout the state for private school buildings. They also asked the government to provide some financial assistance to nursery and primary school teachers considering the financial crunch schools were in in the pandemic situation.

These issues were raised by Tamil Nadu Private Schools Correspondents Association at their first meeting in Tiruchy. Announcing the formation of the association the correspondents who were present at the meeting placed these concerns. Founder President and Correspondent of JC Kumarappa school in Peravurani (Thanjavur district) GR Sridhar during the meeting said, "Except for a few schools in each district, no other school is provided DTCP approval. Most of them have village panchayat level or municipality approval. But DTCP approval is not provided." He said due to that they were getting regular notices to shut the school and each time they have to show the proper permits and other documents to renew and affirm their operation.

"This is cumbersome and most often affects school functioning. Many times schools have postponed their exams due to this. The government should look into this and take a state-wide measure to provide DTCP approval to properly functioning school buildings." On the nursery and primary school teachers' salary issue he said, "In the initial days of lockdown fee collection was very poor. In the later days also only those in higher classes paid up. However, even after admission time, the trend continues. Given that private schools are struggling to pay their private and nursery teachers."Speaking further he said, "Taking this into account, the government should support by providing them some compensation for the private nursery and primary teachers."
