The National Testing Agency, which conducts the JEE, NEET and other national entrance examinations does not know how much money was spent to develop its National Test Abhyas App, reveals an RTI reply. The RTI was filed by Vivek Pandey, a medical student from Madhya Pradesh.

Pandey was also denied information on the identity of the developer of the application.  The app was launched in May 2020 by the Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank to provide free mock tests to the JEE and NEET aspirants during the lockdown. According to the RTI reply, more than 70,000 students have downloaded the app until now.  The agency also denied collecting any of the students' data using the app.


The RTI also sought the NTA to disclose the amount of money that it had earned as the app's ad revenue.  However, this query was also not answered. Instead, the reply reads, "No amount has been charged from the aspiring candidates. The National Test
Abhyas App is free of cost for the aspirants to enable them to take mock tests for JEE (Main) & NEET (UG) and other examinations conducted by NTA and to facilitate them to access high quality mock tests . NTA is a not for profit organisation."
