Medical colleges in Pondy should convene meeting with govt to contain COVID-19 spread: Makkal Needhi Maiam

Dr Subramanian also wanted the government to provide some incentives to the health workers at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19

Puducherry unit of the Makkal Needhi Maiam on Friday demanded that all the Medical colleges in Puducherry should convene a meeting separately or in coordination with the government to chalk out ways and means to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the Union Territory.

MNM state president Dr M A S Subramanian in a statement said that the outcome of such a meeting be strictly implemented here.

He said for a 14 lakh population, there are 9 medical colleges (Jipmer, Government medical college and 7 private medical colleges) in Pondicherry. "If all these nine medical colleges jointly took initiatives at the initial time of spreading of COVID, Puducherry should not have come to the top position in COVID 19 cases now," he said.

Dr Subramanian also wanted the government to provide some incentives to the health workers at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 and financial assistance to the health workers who were infected by the virus.
