The curriculum for undergraduate medical course across India will be revised after 21 years from the next academic year.

Medical Council of India (MCI) has already started the process for revamping of the curriculum and the teaching facilities are already undergoing training.

According to MCI sources, the teachers are getting trained on bio-medical waste, the importance of environmental hazards through these wastes, and how to communicate with patients, along with their medical syllabus. The students will also be exposed to hospital works right from the first year of their MBBS course.

As the current academic year has begun recently, the MCI officials confirmed that this syllabus will be implemented from the next academic year.

Talking about the revamping exercise Dr S Sachidanand, Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) said, "The syllabus hasn't been changed for a long time now. The new syllabus, which MCI is working on, will expose the students to clinical care at a very early stage of their course which will help them come as complete students."

Meanwhile, this revised curriculum will also train students on communication skills which is important to communicate with patients, how to behave with patients, and how to handle them.

MCI is aimed at training over 40,000 senior faculties across the country under the new syllabus.
