Thane: The head of a tribal development committee has criticised the Maharashtra government over what he claimed was a move to bar tribal hostel students from forming unions.

Addressing an event in Vasai, on the outskirts of Mumbai, on Sunday, Tribal Development Review Committee president Vivek Pandit said tribal students have the constitutional right to organise and protest peacefully.

He also raised concerns over what he claimed was deteriorating educational infrastructure in tribal regions. Tribal students continue to struggle for basic necessities like teachers, books, and drinking water, he added.
