Most of the state-run universities and higher education Institutions in Karnataka are not supporting the observation of  "Surgical Strike Day" on Sept 29, which is declared by Union Government.

Following the decision was takeUnionunion Government, the University Grants Commission (UGC) had issued a circular to all higher education Institutions across the nation asking them to follow the directions to observe "Surgical Strike  Day" at their respective campuses. However, this received an opposition at the national level and now even state universities saying they will not observe as  they have not received any communication from the state government or from the higher education department.

One of the vice Chancellors of a renowed state universitiy said, "if they would have said it a defence day we would have celebrated it. As they are saying Surgical Strike day, it is a little difficult and though we comes under UGC, we need to wait for directions from state government as it is a non BJP Government here."

Union Government taken a decision  to celebrate the anniversary of the Surgical Strike by obesrving it on September 29th across the nation. It is the first anniversary of Indian commandos launching attacks on terror camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. 

The universities say they have received no communication from the state government while University Grants Commission issued a notification directing them to celebrate the anniversary by spreading awareness about the surgical strikes by organising march in the campus by NCC cadets, by asking students to write letters on post cards to commondos, initing a decence person to the campus and addressing students etc..

"It is good to educate or create awareness about the importance of armed forces in the country, but why Surgical Strike," questions another VC.
