The students of Jawaharlal Nehru University are set to protest at the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on November 29 asking the ministry to release the report to the concerned stakeholders. The 'high power' committee appointed by the MHRD has recommended against introducing any fee hike without following due procedure and taking students into confidence.
Though the recommendations favour the students, they are not sure whether the same will be executed after Higher education secretary R Subrahmanyam said that the Ministry will “examine the report before taking action on it.”
JNU Students' Union Vice-President Saket Moon said that the MHRD must release the report to all the stakeholders involved. "We went and spoke to them and were a major part of the conversation. We should know what they said. We were told that they will release the report to us," said Saket. "We will write to the MHRD and then protest in front of the Ministry till our demands are met," he added.
It has been 30 days since the protest started on October 28 after the IHA meeting and the students blame it on the Vice-Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar. Among their other demands, the first and foremost is that the 'VC must go' as he is "anti-student". The JNUSU has called for the protest to the MHRD to march to the MHRD with their demands. They also want the JNUSU to be recognised in the and all the statutory bodies to be respected. The students will gather at the Ganga Dhaba at 10 am and then continue the protest to MHRD.
