After the horrific violence unleashed on JNU and vandalisation of hostels, the wardens of Sabarmati Hostel have issued their resignation. Both the Senior Warden and the Warden said in their letter that they are resigning on account of not being able to provide security to the students.

Dr Prakasha Chandra Sahoo, the Warden and an Assistant Professor with the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences said in his letter that on January 5, there was an attack at Sabarmati Hostel and another attack at around 7 pm. "As we were unable to provide security to the students, on moral grounds I am resigning from my post as a warden," Sahoo wrote in his resignation letter.

Similarly, Ramovatar Meena, the Senior Warden who is an Assistant Professor from the School of Environmental Sciences also wrote in her resignation letter, " We tried but can't provide security to the hostel."

The mob entered the campus when the students who had just been pelted with stones, allegedly by members of the ABVP, had gathered around to drink tea. 'Tea Point' was just opposite the Sabarmati Hostel. When the mob entered with weapons in their hands, the students ran to Sabarmati because they were sure that the mob would not enter the hostels. But they did. 

The hostel had been thrashed by the mob and many students said that their rooms are not in a condition to stay in anymore. Other hostels were also attacked but Sabarmati seems to have faced the most violence in comparison. "This resignation letter is enough to expose the lies in the administration's statement that doesn't even mention the attack on Sabarmati," a student leader said.
