Hired to transport 350 kg ganja for Rs 2 lakh, students arrested in Vijayawada

About 173 ganja packets, weighing about 350 kg were seized by the police. The police said the contraband is valued at about Rs 12 lakh

Two engineering students were arrested along with two other college students were arrested from Laxmipuram toll plaza in Vijayawada with 350 kg of marijuana on Wednesday. This came three days after 234 kg ganja was recovered on the national highway 16 (NH-16) on June 29. The police also seized two cars. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused students were hired for a sum of Rs 2 lakh for transporting the contraband from Narsipatnam to Bhubaneshwar.

The accused have been identified as Galli Swami Naidu, Lalam Rama Krishna, Pudi Saiteja and Vanarapu Santaram. On a tip-off, Palasa Circle Inspector R Venugopala Rao said, the police swooped on the accused at Laxmipuram toll plaza while they were transporting ganja by cars from Narsipatnam of Vizag district to Bhubaneswar. About 173 ganja packets, weighing about 350 kg were seized by the police. The police said the contraband is valued at about Rs 12 lakh. A case has been filed at Kasibugga police station and the investigation is on.
