On Wednesday, June 25, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a harsh warning to green card holders through a post on its official X account.

Individuals convicted of significant criminal offences, such as promoting or supporting terrorist activity, may lose their permanent residency and visa privileges, according to the government agency, Hindustan Times reports.

The USCIS shared a photo with the caption: "Green cards and visas will be revoked if an alien breaks the law."

According to the government agency, those with green cards or visas are no longer permitted to stay in the nation if they advocate for violence, promote or support terrorist activity, or urge others to do the same.

USCIS reminded that arriving in the USA and receiving a “visa or a green card is a privilege,” and urged green card holders to be law-abiding citizens.

“Our laws and values must be respected,” the post added, rather ominously.

According to the US Homeland Security Department, a green card holder is a permanent resident who is authorised to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis.

There are various options for becoming a permanent resident, including sponsorship by a family member or US company, individual filing, refugee or asylum status, or other humanitarian programs.

The Office of Homeland Security Statistics estimates that 12.8 million green card holders are currently living in the United States.
