Five girls, all aged 11, from the Asarampatti Government School of Villupuram, consumed rat poison in an attempt to end their lives after they discovered their names written on the school wall alongside love messages on Monday. They were saved as they were taken to a nearby hospital immediately.

The girls from the school were identified as Durga (12), Menaka (12), Jayanthi (11), Gopika (11) and Nivedha (11).
All five of them, said to be close friends, were apparently upset after a boy wrote inappropriate things about them in a paper and stuck them on the school wall. They decided to end their lives as they found it difficult to stand the humiliation of finding their names written on the school wall with inappropriate messages.

The boy who is suspected to have written the notes also studies at the same school. 

The five female students were found unconscious in the school premises on Monday and were immediately rushed to Kallakurichi Government Hospital and later taken to a hospital in Mundiyampakkam.

It was alleged that the girls had consumed rat poison after they were distressed over the incident. Later, they were also said to have consumed Arali (commonly known poisonous plant). 
Villupuram Police are conducting an inquiry into the case.
