A post-graduate student of Madurai Medical College allegedly committed suicide by injecting poison self in a rented room at Mathichiyam locality here on Thursday night. Police said Dr U Udhayaraj (29), who is pursuing Doctor of Medicine in Anaesthesia was found dead in his room on Friday morning.

He hailed from Virudhachalam in Cuddalore district. Preliminary investigations revealed that Udhayaraj was reportedly under depression for the past few days. Police recovered an empty syringe and medicine bottles, besides a suicide note from the room. The body was removed to the Government Rajaji Hospital morgue for post-mortem.

Mathichiyam police have registered a case and are investigating.
