Cleanliness drive launched across government schools in Kanpur

Officials have been asked to ensure regular cleaning of government schools across the district through dedicated sanitation teams and rosters

A special cleanliness drive was conducted at selected government schools across every Nyaya Panchayat in Kanpur district on Sunday as part of an effort to improve sanitation in government schools.

District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh directed officials to form teams of sanitation workers for the drive and prepare rosters to ensure regular cleaning of government schools across the district.

The immediate drive covered selected schools in each Nyaya Panchayat. The administration plans to extend regular sanitation arrangements to other government schools in the district through the roster system.

The initiative focuses on maintaining cleanliness in school premises and ensuring that sanitation work becomes a regular exercise rather than a one-time activity.

School cleanliness has also been part of wider government sanitation programmes. The Centre's Swachh Vidyalaya initiative, launched in 2014, focused on sanitation facilities in schools, including separate functional toilets for boys and girls. Subsequent cleanliness programmes have included cleaning school premises and toilets, sanitation inspections and awareness activities involving students and parents.

The Kanpur administration's latest move places the responsibility for routine cleaning with designated sanitation teams, with rosters intended to track and maintain regular coverage across government schools.
