Bihar Sharif: A 19-member team of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture visited the Nalanda University in Bihar on Tuesday as part of a study tour.

The delegation, led by committee chairman and JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, reviewed the university's infrastructure, education system and expansion plans.

"We discussed a proposal to develop a tourism corridor connecting Vishnupad Temple in Gaya Ji with Rajgir in Nalanda. The corridor can help bring tourists visiting Gaya to Rajgir and Nalanda and boost tourism activities in the region," Jha said.

BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy said MPs from Kashmir, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal and other parts of the country witnessed Nalanda's "revived heritage", describing the university as an "emerging global centre for education and research".

Party MP Manoj Tiwari said Nalanda was not merely Bihar's identity, but a "symbol of India's knowledge tradition".

"Linking modern Nalanda with students and researchers worldwide, and creating greater opportunities for local youth, can generate economic and employment benefits," he asserted.

According to Vice Chancellor Sachin Chaturvedi, the MPs discussed the proposed Nalanda University Amendment Bill, increasing the number of students from Bihar alongside those from foreign countries, and strengthening Nalanda's link with the Buddhist tourism circuit.
