With the outbreak of COVID-19 in neighbouring states, the Karnataka Education Department declared and notified schools not to run classes for nursery, LKG and UKG students in Bengaluru. This decision was taken and schools were notified on Sunday evening based on the instructions from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka. S Suresh Kumar, Minister for Primary & Secondary Education took to Twitter to post the update. He mentioned that the Bengaluru North, South and Rural divisions will cease classes in government and private schools for nursery, UKG and LKG until further orders.

The notification from the Health Department also stated that the neighbouring states of Kerala, Telangana and Tamil Nadu have reported positive cases. Hence in this regard, a precautionary step has been taken in the interest of children.  Similarly, in the ongoing Pre-University examinations, the education department has ensured that there are only 20 candidates in each exam hall. Last week, the teachers have reworked the allocation of register numbers of students in particular classes. The students have been allowed to wear masks and use sanitisers in the exam hall.
