“Mandir wahi banayenge”. Yes, there will be a mandir finally. Bringing down curtains on the longest running Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute issue, the Supreme Court has given the entire disputed 2.77-acre land to the Ram Janmabhoomi NYAS, along with a trust to be formed by the Centre within three months which will monitor the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The Sunni Waqf Board will be given 5 acres of alternative land, the five-judge bench ruled in the unanimous verdict.

Reactions have been pouring in since the verdict was announced on Saturday at 10.30 am. While some are hailing the SC’s judgment, there are a few who have said they are not satisfied with it.

India took 169 years of communal violence and more than six decades of land title dispute to reach the final verdict. The Babri Masjid demolition on December 6, 1992, that made the issue a political goldmine came much later. Communal violence has been a part of Ayodhya since 1850 when the Babri Masjid was attacked by Hindus.
