848 students get placed in first phase of IIT Madras counselling, Intel, Microsoft top recruiters

If the 167 pre-placement offers are to also be included then the total number of offers stands at 998, last year was record=breaking for the campus with 888 job offers

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras concluded their first phase of placements with as many as 848 students getting job offers from top companies in the country. Last year, the institute had a record-breaking number of offers with 888 placements from 195 companies.

If the 167 pre-placement offers are to also be included then the total number of offers stands at 998, a release by the institute said. Those who weren't able to get placed from the 2018-19 batch registered for the current phase as well and including these offers, the total this time went up to 1016. Thirty-four international offers were also made during this face. 

A total of 1,298 students were in the fray for the campus Phase I Placements during 2019-20. Twenty-two percent of the registered students were females, the release said. The top recruiter this year was Micron Technology India Operations who handed out 31 offers, Intel, Microsoft and Tata Consultancy Services take the next three places respectively.  The other notable recruiters included Standard Chartered, Axis, Citi, Mastercard, Flipkart, Samsung, L&T, Mercedes Benz, Goldman Sachs and American Express.

Out of the 34 international offers made, 17 came from Micron Technologies for their Singapore office.  Other major international recruiters include ANZ, Cohesity, Deskera, Ebara Corporation, MediaTek, Salesforce, Three sides and Uber, the institute said. The top sectors to offers jobs are core/R&D, Analytics/Finance/Consulting and thirdly, information technology.

Speaking about the campus placements, Prof Manu Santhanam and Prof CS Shankar Ram, Advisors (Placement), IIT Madras, said, “We are optimistic to build on these numbers in the second phase of our Placement process. We have started preparations focussing on the Education sector for Phase II Placements.”

The second phase will begin in the second half of January 2020.
