Hammad Rahman is a bachelor. However, he knows more about weddings than any married person. The reason? He runs an online matchmaking platform called nikahforever.com for people to find their soulmates. Now if you think that Hammad and Sima Mami from Mumbai, the one from Indian Matchmaking, are birds of the same feather, you'd be terribly wrong.

While the latter is someone who loves a big fat Indian wedding, Hammad, the founder and CEO of nikahforever.com is asking his clients to not indulge in one. He has, in fact, started a campaign called #NoToBigFatWedding where he urges young people to just have simple weddings. He says that COVID has helped the cause to an extent. "People tend to make a change either out of fear or because of a reward. Here, the COVID fear has forced people to resort to small weddings. This is a healthy trend which has to continue," he says.

He has also started a signature campaign for this, which is apparently being supported by a little over 1,18,000 people. "I am so happy with the response that we have been receiving. This is an extremely positive trend," he says. "Since I work in this industry, I know the sort of issues that people face when they have big weddings. Parents of brides often spend their life's savings on weddings. A lot of them are even pushed into debt. This is not right," he says.

Hammad says that he will happily have a small and simple wedding once he gets married. "Weddings are supposed to be happy events. They should not push one into more trouble," he signs off.
