Is someone encroaching on University of Hyderabad campus? Students seem to think so

EdexLive Desk

Students and administration of the University of Hyderabad were in for a shock when they saw an excavator on their campus. When they approached them, they noticed that the security outpost had been demolished and the land had been encroached upon. Students conducted a protest against the encroachers, who they claim are ‘local politicians’.

The Youth for Inclusive and Sustainable Society (YISS), UoH along with other students, including members of the Students’ Union conducted a protest today. “We saw today, that last night they had demolished the security outpost. They also threatened the security who were present there. This has happened before as well, which is why the security outpost was installed,” a member of the Students’ Union said. “We’ve heard that the encroachers are from the private sector but have the support of local government officials,” he added. Some students believe the agenda is to construct a road running through the campus.

“We have been sitting here and protesting against the encroachment, “ said Kiran Gowd, a member of the YISS. Students stood holding up placards that said ‘Protect UoH land. Protect Lungs of Hyderabad’. Students said that the administration was also at the site demanding that the encroachers leave the campus and informed them that the land belonged to them.

UoH is yet to respond to our queries regarding this issue.
