Puducherry Assembly passes bill for new Technological University

The Puducherry legislative assembly passed a bill on Friday for a new university in Puducherry. Though the salient features of Puducherry Technological University Bill, 2019, which passed in the house, was not provided, it is learnt that the bill envisages the upgradation of Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC) into a Technological University. Education Minister R Kamalakannan moved the bill and it was passed by a voice vote.

A bill moved by Chief Minister V Narayanasamy ensuring protection to doctors on duty and hospitals in the Union Territory was also passed by the house. The bill was passed after Mr Narayanasamy clarified that initially the bill is meant only for government hospitals.

Pondicherry Engineering College is an engineering institution situated in South India on East Coast Road in Pondicherry, Puducherry on the exact border of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The college is an institution sponsored by the Union Territory of Puducherry.
