Indians have always been known for their jugaad tricks. We have solved an age-old problem. — students trying to cheat during an examination. Solution: put a box over your head. The students of Bhagat Pre-University College in Karnataka’s Haveri were asked to wear cardboard boxes during an exam on October 16, reportedly to prevent them from cheating.

In the photos, that have gone viral, it is clear that the boxes are closed from three sides and from the top but opens at the front letting the students writing their exams.

MB Sateesh, a director of the college told The Times of India, “We implemented this idea to curb malpractice and not to harass students. This is just an experiment. We discussed it with students and took their consent before implementing it.” He further said that the college is adhering to the rules laid down by the PU department. But the state government of Karnataka is not happy — thay have reportedly issued a notice to the college, demanding an explanation on the reason behind the step taken by the college.

Terming the incident as “inhumane”, SC Peerjade, deputy director, PU Board said, “This is inhuman and a civilised society will never accept such an idea. I hope this is never repeated again.” He further said that the college can use “ traditional ways” for managing students and to prevent malpractice in the examination hall. He also advised students to bring it up to the government’s notice in case any such incidents happen again.
