Around 30 students from a private PU college in Mangaluru took ill allegedly after consuming food in the hostel. However, the college authorities ruled out such possibility stating that the students brought to the hospital had different ailments due to weather.

On Monday morning, media persons received information that students from Mahesh PU college were admitted in a private hospital at Balmatta. Upon inquiry, some of the students said that they started falling sick after consuming food at the hostel on Saturday night.

Some of them had nausea and fever, the students said. However, the chief warden of the college, not willing to disclose his name, said that there are 1000 students in the hostel and all of them including the wardens consume the same food served in the hostel.

"We brought the students in a bus after some of them complained of fever, some about headache while some did have nausea. The ailments are due to change in the weather and not due to food poisoning", he said.
