Directorate of Medical Education (DME) had transferred the assistant professor of Thoothukudi medical college hospital (TMCH) against whom a few of the Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) students alleged sexual harassment complaints.

According to sources, dean of the TMCH received an unnamed complaint from a few CRRI interns alleging sexual harassment by an assistant professor attached to the Orthopaedics department. Although it was unnamed, the Dean Dr S Balasubramanian set up a three-member committee comprising three women professors headed by Dr Lalitha and inquired all the 126 interns and the doctor facing accusation. A report was submitted to the DME in this regard, said sources.

On Wednesday, the director of DME transferred the assistant professor to Directorate of Medical Services (DMS). The dean told Express that the assistant professor who was charged with sexual harassment complaints was transferred to DMS following inquiry, and relieved from TMCH on Wednesday.

It may be noted that the CRRI-Council and the Student Council had also petitioned the dean objecting to the charges leveled against the assistant professor of the Orthopaedics department.
