The Director-General of Police, Tamil Nadu has ordered for three student suicide cases from SRM Institute of Science and Technology to be transferred to CB-CID. All the three incidents occurred within a span of 60 days and all the students jumped off their hostel building. 

The cases which are registered at Maraimalai Nagar police station will now be transferred to the CB-CID according to the order issued by DGP JK Tripathy.

The first suicide was by 23-year-old Biomedical engineering student, Anupriya from Tiruvallur on May 26. A police officer said she jumped off the tenth floor of the college hostel but blamed her frustration on her allegedly strict parents in her suicide note. 

The very next day, Aneesh Chowdary, 19, a first-year student jumped off the fifth floor of the hostel. He was a native of Jharkhand. The third case occurred two days ago on July 15 when S Raghavan, a final year IT student jumped off the second floor. 

Expressing anguish over the incident of a final year IT student Sree Raghav of the SRM Institute of Science and Technology ending his life on Monday, the Registrar N Sethuraman stated that as policy support and guidance had been consistently offered to needy students. 

In a statement, he noted that Sree Raghav was good in academics and a note found in his pocket had said nobody was responsible for his decision. The psychiatry department of the medical college at SRMIST had made it a practice to offer support and guidance to students facing any problems, he said. “We have a faculty mentoring programme where one faculty takes care of 20 students. The medical college psychiatry department is offering psychological counselling for the needy students,” he added
