#SayNoToWar: How social media is coming together to campaign for peace

On Twitter and Facebook, the hashtag #SayNoToWar is trending, let's hope those holding the trigger are listening

About a two decades ago, if there was going to be a war it would be announced in the 9'o clock news. A decade before that, it would either be announced on the radio in the same time slot or the running show would take a break to give you an 'exclusive'. Before that, people would only hear about a war in the newspapers - ' FRANCE INVADED'. The only screaming people could do then was through capital letters.

Today, everyone is screaming. On our timelines, in Instagram stories, on twitter feeds. People can drive wars sitting in the comforts of their home with their unlimited data Jio packs. That's all it takes. In those days, in the days of screaming capital lettered headlines, those calling for peace were called 'hippies'. The drugged up dreamers. Today, those calling for peace are among us. They might not be taking out marches yet, but they're starting with the hashtag #SayNoToWar. People from both sides of the border, young and old are both coming out to say they do not want a war.

It's heartening to see so many people come out and say 'No'. Here's the different ways in which people are coming out to say they don't want another war, they only want peace.

Like John Lennon said, "Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say that I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one." He definitely wasn't and isn't the only one.
