MHRD to recognise Indian Institute of Mass Communication as deemed university

The Union Human Resources Development Ministry has issued a letter of intent to grant the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) deemed university status.

University Grants Commission in August thad recommended to the HRD Ministry to grant deemed university status to the IIMC.

"Certain anomalies have been pointed out to the institution, once they are removed, the institute will be granted deemed university status," a senior official in the higher education department of the Ministry said.

The institute is one of the prestigious journalism schools in the country which functions under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. It offers postgraduate diploma courses in journalism, advertising and public relations.
