Kidnapper shot dead in encounter, Delhi cops rescue minor abducted on Republic Day eve

A five-year-old boy, who was brazenly abducted from a school bus in the national capital on Republic Day evening from his school bus was rescued on Tuesday after an encounter between the police and kidnappers in Ghaziabad, an official said. One of the kidnappers was shot dead while the other two sustained injuries.

Rehan (5) was abducted from his school bus on January 25 by two bike-borne men who shot at the intervening driver near the GTB Enclave in Shahdara. He was rescued in the early hours of Tuesday after a Crime Branch team received a tip-off and laid a trap in a residential area on the Loni border, an official said.

One of the abductors Ravi was killed while his associate Pankaj suffered injuries to his leg. The third accused Nitin was also arrested. No police personnel was hurt, he added. The accused had demanded a ransom from the boy's father, the official said. The case was transferred to the Crime Branch from the local police by the Commissioner after they failed to rescue the child.
