A female teacher of a private school in Gurugram was suspended for allegedly putting tape across the mouths of two pre-nursery children to keep them quiet during a class, school authorities said on Saturday.

A video of the incident, that took place in October, is being circulated on social media. In the video, the teacher is purportedly seen putting cellotape across the mouths of two four-year-old students — one boy and one girl — during a class.

Based on a complaint by the parents of the two students, the school management immediately suspended the teacher.

"On the complaint of the students' parents, we have taken strict action and suspended the teacher," Gururaj, the school principal said.

The woman teacher claimed that the students were disturbing the entire class and they sometimes used filthy language.

This is not a secluded event, there have been several similar incidents earlier where children have been abused in one way or the other by teachers.

One such incident took place last year in November when a teacher in Narsingi in Telangana stuck tape on the mouth of a UKG student for talking in class.

The incident occurred at the Sesame Tree school that is situated on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The boy complained about the incident to his mother who then called the school principal to inquire into the matter. However, the school had not responded to the mother's queries then, several news organisations had reported at the time.

According to news reports, the UKG student failed to heed repeated warnings to stop talking in the class and so the teacher reportedly gagged him.

Narsingi Police had at the time registered a case under Section 82 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act based on the complaint registered by the student's mother.
