Volunteers of the Puducherry Students' Federation (PSF), on November 4, held a demonstration in front of the head post office seeking age relaxation for recruitment of police constable as per orders passed by the Central Administrative Tribunal, Chennai.

They were protesting against the Puducherry administration which, they said, had failed to consider the order of the Central Administrative Tribunal with respect to age relaxation in the recruitment of police constables. It may be noted that the administration has fixed to 22 years as the upper age limit for recruitment of police constables.

Since constable recruitments were not held for the last eight years, the PSF demanded that the upper age limit be enhanced to 24 years. Though a proposal was moved to the government in this regard, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi did not grant approval. Now, since the government failed to take any action, they moved the central administrative tribunal and got the direction that the government may consider this demand. However, the government failed to take any action forcing the PSF to organize agitation.
