The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others, said Mahatma Gandhi. Guna Suresh stands as a living example of this quote. He who owns a milk outlet in Madurai Maatuthaavani bus stand has been giving free milk to infants for the last seven years.

“Eight years back, when my family and I travelled to Chennai, we were stuck at Koyambedu bus terminal at 12 in the afternoon. My brother was travelling with an infant. We tried to find milk for the crying baby and managed to find a shop and bought milk. But the milk was spoilt. It was then that I decided something has to be done to provide quality and free milk to infants,” he says.

“That incident had a huge impact on me. I wanted to give free milk to infants all over the country. I initiated whatever was possible from my side from that day itself. So here at Maatuthavani bus stand, where you can see hundreds of women carrying their infants and walking, I decided to give free milk to all mothers who visit my shop with an infant. The milk is pure and never spoilt,” he says.

For the past seven years Guna Suresh, has been providing free milk to infants and nomads who are living in and around the bus stop without any religious or caste discrimination. “On a regular day, at least 20 infants are given milk. The number goes up when the crowd gets bigger during festivities. We offer milk to underprivileged mothers as well,” he adds.

“Owning a shop is not always about making profits. It is about the inner satisfaction you get when you make someone happy. I feel complete when I can help my fellow people in some beneficial way,” he says, adding, “In Mattuthavani bus stand, you can easily spot our shop and the service we provide is clearly mentioned in a board. I request shopkeepers in various other bus stands across Tamil Nadu to take similar efforts. It will definitely make a huge difference to our society. If my financial status improves, I will take better and bigger steps to help others.”
