The Jammu and Kashmir police have decided to conduct "thorough" background checks of all staff at schools in the Jammu region and has asked the institutes to submit their employees' details.
The move follows rising concern about childrens' safety at schools after a seven-year-old boy was found dead with his throat slit in the washroom of a prominent Gurugram school. The police have also launched a drive to ensure school-childrens' safety in Jammu City south.
Chaudhary said school administrations have been urged to cooperate and that they would sensitise people on the issue. "An awareness seminar will be held with school principals very soon," he said.
A booklet outlining safety and security guidelines based on directions of the Supreme Court and the CBSE will be compiled and provided to schools.
Chaudhary appealed to the school administrations to ensure that children do not suffer in exercising their right to education.
As the outrage and shock over the incident spreads acros s the country, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has sent a message to all affiliated institutions to accord priority to safety and furnish details of safety audit measures.
"Kindly furnish the safety audit measures that are presently being followed by your school. The information is urgently required and must be emailed to council@cisce.org not later than September 16, 2017," CISCE chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon said in a communique to the affiliate schools on Tuesday.
