NSUI, the Congress' Student Wing has started a Twitter storm campaign called #SackABVPPresident, against the ABVP's National President Dr Subbiah Shanmugam. A few days ago, a Chennai woman had filed a complaint of harassment against the doctor. This was later withdrawn and the woman is said to have 'settled' the matters.

"The ABVP has to immediately sack Dr Subbiah and take necessary action against him. He is not fit for this position, considering the deeds that he has committed," said Lokesh Chugh, National Media In-charge, NSUI. CCTV footage that shows a man who was identified to be Subbiah by the woman's family, outside her apartment was doing rounds on social media a few days ago. "The BJP and RSS follow the Manusmriti, which demeans women to mere child-bearing instruments. On one hand, they say 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' and on the other, their office bearers harass women," added Chugh.

He also said that the NSUI volunteers from Chennai are in touch with the woman. Chugh added that if the ABVP and the police fail to take necessary actions, they will go ahead with aggressive measures to tackle the issue.

The ABVP, on the other hand, accused the NSUI of running a political agenda and targeting a 'Corona warrior'. "It is unfortunate of them to raise such malicious allegations against a doctor, who is running from pillar to post saving lives during a pandemic," says Nidhi Tripathi, National General Secretary, ABVP. "The ABVP stands with Dr Subbiah. The complaint was withdrawn by the woman a few days ago. In that scenario, what is the point of launching a campaign now?" she questioned.
