India's COVID-19 tally on Thursday crossed the 73 lakh-mark after a fresh spike of 67,708 cases was recorded in the past 24 hours that has pushed the overall figure to 73,07,098, Union Health Ministry said in its daily update.

Meanwhile, 81,514 coronavirus patients were cured/discharged during the same time-frame, taking the total number of recoveries to 63,83,441.

With 680 deaths in past one day, the death toll, too, has spiked to 1,11,266, whereas the active case-load on the country has further decreased by 14,486 since Wednesday with India currently home to 8,12,390 active novel coronavirus cases.

In terms of percentage, the active cases are 11.12 per cent. Recovery rate stands at 87. 36 per cent, while the death rate is at 1.52 per cent.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 11,36,183 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, taking the total cumulative samples tested since the beginning of the pandemic till Wednesday to 9,12,26,305.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra continues to remain the worst affected state with maximum case count as well as in terms of maximum active cases.

Globally, the United States continues to remain the most-infected, followed by India and Brazil.
