Congress affiliated Kerala Students' Union President KM Abhijith found himself in the middle of a controversy upon testing positive a few days ago. Abhijith allegedly got the test done under a fake identity, according to a complaint filed by the Pothencode Panchayat President K Venugopalan Nair. 

The KSU leader was quite active in the protests that sought the resignation of the Kerala Higher Education Minister KT Jaleel. The protests that saw an active turnout were not organised following the COVID protocols and social distancing norms. "19 people tested positive for COVID in our panchayat today. However, the health workers were unable to trace a certain Abhi MK. He wasn't hospitalised too," reads the complaint. "Later, we found out that it was KM Abhijith, who got the test done under a fake name and address. Serious action must be taken against those trying to spread the virus in the state, intentionally,"  it reads. The address belongs to the KSU Secretary Bahul Krishna.

However, over a Facebook post, Abhijith says that the complaint was part of an attempt to defame him and that it was a clerical mistake. "Bahul and I got tested together. While I tested positive, he tested negative. Since he hails from Thiruvananthapuram, he filled out all the details. The error here must be a clerical mistake," his post reads. "I never went missing. Since I have no symptoms apart from throat pain, I am staying in an isolated house. I had informed the same to the health workers," he says.
