Bihar to set up planning body on lines of NITI Aayog

Patna, Jul 5 (PTI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has said his government would set up a commission on the lines of the Centre's NITI Aayog to prepare a long-term development vision for the state and strengthen evidence-based policymaking.

He was speaking at a high-level review meeting of the Planning and Development Department here on Saturday.

Choudhary reviewed the progress of key government schemes and issued directions for effective implementation and monitoring, according to a statement issued by the CMO.

"The commission will prepare a roadmap for Bihar's long-term development, monitor implementation of development schemes, improve inter-departmental coordination and provide policy suggestions from time to time," the CM said.

He emphasised that the objective of the Planning and Development Department should not be limited to framing schemes, but also include ensuring effective implementation, continuous evaluation and tangible outcomes.

Choudhary directed officials to develop a dedicated online portal for MLAs and MLCs to improve transparency and monitoring of schemes undertaken by the public representatives.

He also asked officials to prepare a list of sensitive sites under the graveyard fencing scheme, and complete pending work at the earliest.

The CM also called for district-specific budget plans based on local needs, resources and potential.

"We need to prepare a long-term vision of a 'developed Bihar' by 2037, when the state completes 125 years of its formation," Choudhary added.
