Taking a serious view of an alleged incident of ragging, the Andhra University officials have reportedly decided to take action against nearly eight second-year Integrated Chemistry Five Year course students for ragging their juniors. The alleged ragging took place in the AU Engineering College a few days back but came to light on Monday after the authorities put up notices in the hostel notice board stating that action will be taken against the eight identified students under relevant sections of Anti-Ragging Act.

According to sources, the first and second-year students of the Integrated Chemistry course are given accommodation in a hostel. According to the junior students, their seniors on last Wednesday and Thursday made 10 of them parade half-naked and made them stage obscene skits in the hostel campus. The seniors also allegedly used abusive language against the juniors.

The brother of one of the junior student is studying final year in the same course and he came to know about the alleged ragging and took up the issue with the Professors and college authorities. An inquiry was conducted which brought the incident to light.

10 senior students were involved while the authorities have identified eight of them. On Monday, the authorities put up notices in the hostel notice board informing that the seniors were found to be involved in ragging their juniors and suitable action will be initiated against them as per Anti-Ragging Act.

The Engineering College authorities are not available for a comment.
