All the residents of the hostel at Indian Institute of Mass Communication have been asked to self-quarantine after an international student tested positive for COVID-19. The student who was to board a flight to her home country underwent mandatory testing on June 1. The institute will also be closed for three days for sanitising and cleaning.

"Now that a positive case has come out in the open, it is clear that each one of us will have to be careful since there has been a lot of interacting between each other," reads a letter that the administration had sent to the students. It also asked the students not to panic about the same. While the institute authorities say that they are 'trying to arrange a test of all hostellers and campus residents including mess staff and guards', they have also asked symptomatic students to get themselves tested.

Student sources, on condition of anonymity, told us that that the student who was tested positive did not adhere to physical distancing norms. "She used to go out frequently. A few days back, she had travelled in a cab, with three other students, violating the government's norms of physical distancing," says a student. "We are really scared right now. There are chances that more students may test positive," he says.
