Faculty members of BEd colleges have alleged that the higher education department is delaying to give notification to conduct the first-year admission in government BEd colleges for the present academic year. At the same time, they said that the private colleges have completed the admission process and are taking online classes for freshmen.

An assistant professor in a government BEd college, on condition of anonymity, said, "Usually, classes for first-year students, starts from the first week of August every year. But, the higher education department did not release any notification regarding admission in BEd and MEd courses in seven government colleges and 14 aided colleges in the state so far." He added, "Due to this delay, the students visit these colleges daily asking about the admission. They are suffering without even joining in college. As the higher education department is silent now, the students who like to join in government colleges, moved to the private colleges paying additional fees in familiar colleges. So, higher education minister KP Anbalagan needs to take steps on this issue immediately." 

According to a source in the department, earlier, the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) sent a show-cause notice to seven government BEd colleges as no proper faculties strength in the colleges, as per NCTE norms. It said that government colleges should reply to the notice within 90 days. It did not take any step to appoint professors in vacant places in colleges. Rather, it is trying to deploy the professors working in government arts colleges into BEd colleges to manage the issue. Due to this, the higher education department has stopped the admission in this academic year. When asked about it, director of collegiate education (in charge) N Ramalakshmi said, "The admission process would be started in BEd colleges soon and we have been taking steps regarding it." When asked about the delaying admission process, she denied a comment.
