Learning a skill is not only a way to upgrade one's employability but will also a way to a better life, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on the World Youth Skills Day, which also incidentally marks the fifth anniversary of the Skill India Movement launched by the PM in 2015.

Sharing his insights in his not-so-long speech, Modi added that his mantra to stay relevant is simple. "Learn a skill, reskill and upskill — this is the mantra that should be an important part of our lives," he said. "Corona has not only changed the skills required in today's world, but it has also changed the nature of jobs. We need to stay relevant and this mantra is the one to follow. Skill is something we give to ourselves that keeps getting better with time. If you are not attracted to learning new skills, your life is stuck. You are making your own life seem like baggage — not only to you but to your loved ones too," he added. 

"No matter how many degrees you have, upskilling will always make way for a better life. No matter how old you are, as long as you keep learning new skills you will be active and happy," said the PM. "Let's not get confused between knowledge and skills. There is a stark difference — knowledge gives you the theoretical part of the know-how but skills provide you to perform the activity. This was the inspiration behind the Skill India initiative — we wanted our you to not just be knowledgeable but also be able to use that knowledge practically by learning the required skills," said the Prime Minister.  He also said that the MSDE's latest skill mapping portal will help employers find workers with the required skill set with a click of a button.
