Adding a new feather to his cap, a third-semester BSc student from Mysuru has won two gold medals during an International Yoga Championship held at Malaysia recently. Kuvalashwa P, a 20-year-old youth pursuing his degree at Yuvaraja's college in the city has bagged two gold medals in different categories during International Yoga Championship held at IDCC, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.
The yoga championship organised by the Transnational Association of Arts, Culture and Sports (TRAACS) saw the participation of over 400 yoga practitioners from 12 countries. Representing the Indian team, Kuvalashwa won a gold medal in 'Own Choice' (Entry-level) category for 17-21 years and another gold medal in artistic yoga (Pair) in the under-20 category.
Kuvalshwa, son of Parashurama T, a Head Constable at City Armed Reserve (CAR), Mysuru, started practising yoga at the SGS International Yoga foundation college and research centre under the guidance of Yoga instructor Ravanikar HM.
Expressing how overwhelmed he was after winning, Kuvalashwa said, "I spent nearly four to five hours every day to prepare for this event over a month which helped me to bag these prizes. This is my second international yoga championship and I am looking forward to excelling in the upcoming University yoga championship and Yoga Olympiad to be held in Bengaluru at the end of this year."
Thanking all those who extended their moral and financial support for his son to take part in the championship, Kuvalashwa's father Parashurama said, "I started sending Kuvalashwa to yoga classes for it has several health benefits and also it made him fit. But today I am happy that he is achieving such heights in this field. It's completely his dedication towards yoga which made him the winner. I must also thank the faculty members of Yuvaraja's college who are encouraging him to be part of these championships."
Untill now, Kuvalashwa has won over 25 medals in the state and national Yoga championship. In the month of June, he took part in the Seventh International Yoga festival held at Pattaya, Thailand where he won five medals in different categories. Kuvalashwa wishes to continue in the field of Yoga and has plans to do a Masters' degree in Yoga.
