On October 3, the JNU's Inter-Hall Administration (IHA)'s committee proposed a new set of rules where they sought to increase the fees by a whopping 75 times. However, the IHA student representative Satish Yadav says that he wasn't notified about the meeting during which the proposal was drafted — a clear contravention of the norms in place.

While the students were to pay Rs 240 per year for a single room, the current proposal is to collect Rs 1500 per month from each student. Condemning this, Satish says, "It looks like the current Vice-Chancellor was appointed in JNU to destroy the university and the concept of cheap and affordable education. With such hiked rates, it will be difficult for students from economically and socially backward classes to study in future."
 

Satish also says that the current JNUSU will also hold a protest against the draft and a delegation will meet the committee members who drafted the proposal. "We will have a word with the members and make sure that the current fee structure is reinstated. Unlike other universities, JNU's Students' Union has always stood by its students. We will not support this undemocratic decision," he says. "If the government gives a tax waiver to corporates, they can't compensate it by torturing the poor students of the country," he adds.
