JNU student Aejaz Ahmad Rather has yet again written a letter to the Delhi Minority Commission to seek action against Amrita Singh, who is allegedly continuing to make Islamaphobic comments against him. The DMC had already directed the administration in January to conduct an enquiry regarding these allegations. However, Aejaz said that no enquiry had taken place. He has written to the DMC again after Singh tweeted Islamaphobic comments.
On January 21, DMC had directed the University to constitute a committee by January 28 and conduct an enquiry. But Aejaz said he had not been informed of any such committee. Now after Singh's tweets, he has written to the Commission seeking a restraining order or a committtee to conduct the enquiry.
Three days ago, the JNU VC tweeted about protesting students breaking into his house. In response to this tweet, the professor said, "Wasn't preparedness, advance planning and swift action required since the day our ill informed courts cleared Aejaz Ahmad Rather led dangerous team to freedom?". She also tweeted that Aejaz's comment about not breaking into the house was completely untrue, "He is an established fake news generator, he has five trusted supporters he brought from his homeland....a lied gang!"
In his letter to the DMC, Aejaz said that Singh was publicly targeting his Kashmiri and Muslim identity which has put him through a lot of mental trauma and harassment. He said that the professor was just trying to gain political favours by targeting his social, regional and religious identity, "Her actions have made Kashmiri students vulnerable to physical attacks and has put our lives at stake. By such vicious and communal remarks, Prof. Singh is making my life very vulnerable to physical attacks and has mentally harassed me. In her heinous and bigoted conspiracy theories, she has falsely chosen to target and involve some Muslim students from the Centre for Study of Law and Governance (CSLG) where she teaches."
The JNUSU has also issued a statement condemning the professor for her 'communal profiling and targeting of the JNUSU general secretary' The statement read — Amita Singh has crossed all limits yet again and has unleashed a new set of Islamophobic attacks against Rather. In a series of tweets, Amita Singh repeatedly attacked Aejaz Ahmad calling him dangerous, liar. Moreover it is not just Aejaz who Amita Singh attacked today in her tweets but students from the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Her obnoxious tweets highly condemnable.
