Madurai HC gives relief to medical aspirant; directs NTA to revise his NEET communal rank

Hearing a petition filed by a medical aspirant seeking direction to modify his NEET communal rank, as his community had been wrongly entered as OBC instead of SC by the private school where he was studying, the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to revise his communal rank by placing him under SC category within two weeks.

Justice R Suresh Kumar passed the order on the petition filed by the boy's father, one V Maran of Theni. Maran submitted that the school in which his son was studying had inadvertently entered his son's communal category as OBC instead of SC at the time of application for NEET and his son had been placed in the 1,29,662 rank under OBC category in the rank list.

"After noticing the error, we sent a representation to the authorities concerned to modify the same but no action has been taken so far," Maran stated and approached the Court seeking relief.
